About Us

Spin’N’Knit Fibre Design emerged from a family farm business by the name of Wyntaissa Alpacas located in the country town of Tarago, south of Goulburn, NSW.

The business was introduced as an endeavour to promote alpaca, wool and natural fibres during the earlier drought years by way of supporting the farm.

Sue Collins has always had a creative flair, and although her career diversified, the grounding was there to pursue the artistic side of craft and take it one step further. She was recently awarded First Place in the Hand Spun and Hand Knitted sections of the prestigious National Alpaca Show held in Adelaide. Also a Supreme Champion for both spinning and knitting in past Alpaca Wool Craft show events .

Spinning various fibres and working with alpacas on a daily basis has given Sue an appreciation of the texture of fibre, learning about the handle of fleece, style of crimp, fineness of micron, lustre, together with the varieties of fleece available for commercial and hobbyist use. A high quality fleece inevitably results in abetter article or garment.

Sue’s dyeing techniques have produced specialised colourways, mainly inspired by Nature. New colour arrangements are constantly being developed for the marketplace and cottage industry. One of the delightful things about dyeing is that there are so many vibrant colours to mix and match. Dyeing may appear to be a challenge at first, but it opens up all sorts of creative avenues for the spinner and knitter.

Spin’N’Knit Fibre Design specialises in hand dyed yarns, hand spun specialty yarns, and hand dyed rovings/tops comparable to the overseas market right here in Australia, and at affordable prices. Produced on farm using natural rain water, the rovings are suitable for felting, spinning, embellishing, landscapes or that special project. Blended rovings and batts can be made to order. Wholesale enquiries welcome on certain items.

Exclusive patterns include those previously published in Australian Knitting and the Yarn Magazine.  We also attend various exhibitions, fairs and markets.
